The best times to visit Bhutan are during spring (March to May) and autumn (September to November). Spring offers beautiful blooming flowers and lush landscapes, while autumn provides clear skies and excellent mountain views. Summer (June to August) can be rainy due to the monsoon season, and winter (December to February) can be cold, especially at higher elevations, but offers unique experiences with fewer tourists.
Yes, all foreign visitors (except Indian, Bangladeshi, and Maldivian nationals) need a visa to enter Bhutan. Visas are processed by licensed Bhutanese tour operators like us and cannot be obtained directly. We handle all visa arrangements as part of our tour packages. Visas are approved by the Tourism Council of Bhutan before your arrival and stamped in your passport upon entry.
The Sustainable Development Fee (SDF) is a daily fee that all visitors to Bhutan must pay. This fee goes directly to the government to fund free healthcare, education, and infrastructure for Bhutanese citizens, as well as conservation efforts. The SDF is included in our package prices and is part of Bhutan's "High Value, Low Impact" tourism policy.
The fitness level required varies by tour. The Cultural Heritage Tour requires moderate fitness for walking and hiking to sites like Tiger's Nest (which can be challenging due to altitude). The Himalayan Trek requires good physical fitness and previous trekking experience. The Buddhist Pilgrimage and Festival Tours are less physically demanding but still involve walking and some light hiking. All tours take place at altitude (1,200-3,500m), so we recommend arriving in good health and allowing time to acclimatize.
We recommend packing layers as temperatures can vary significantly between day and night. Essential items include: comfortable walking shoes, warm jacket, rain gear, sun protection (hat, sunglasses, sunscreen), personal medications, and modest clothing for visiting religious sites (shoulders and knees should be covered). For trekking tours, additional specialized equipment will be needed, and we'll provide a detailed packing list after booking.
